PROGRESS REPORT FOR FEBRUARY
1. The progress during February has been on täe
whole rather slow. Labour took a long time to come back after
the China New Year Holidays and this coupled with unfavoura-
ble weather had a very bad effect all round.
2. The earthwork done in Kowloon Station Yard
only amounted to about 600,000 cubic feet which is very much
below the average required to complete the work even twelve
months behind the time mentioned in the agreement. There
were a few good tides however which were taken advantage of
and about 110 feet of wall was completed and the foundation
courses put in for about 200 feet.
3. North of the range of hills the progress was
better though not by any means up to the average. The lead
on many of the banks has now become very long and the supply
of light line and trucks are taxed to the uttermost. I do
not think however it would pay to purchase any more just now
as in nearly every case the earthwork is well ahead of time.
The big cutting just beyond Taipo will take the
longest to complete but I think there is no fear that it
wont be completed by the end of the year. At one time it
was feared that the water logged valley crossed by this
cutting would give trouble but this water has now been tapped
